Class Descriptions

Show classes for:
Music Together®, birth - 5

Adults, regardless of musical ability, find it fun to create an environment that supports a child of any age in achieving basic music competence. Children of mixed ages participate by watching/hearing adult modeling of music-making, and eventually singing, moving and playing instruments at their own developmental level. Classes run for 10 weeks in fall winter and spring, 6 weeks in summer.

Music Together Older Family/3-5 years

Classes for 3 to 5 year-olds who are ready for more of a peer experience. Though very similar to mixed-age classes, teacher will allow opportunities for individual singing and music creativity, as well as some one-on-one interaction with teacher. Younger siblings are welcome and will still benefit from being in a rich musical environment.

Music Together Babies, 0-8 months

This is a Music Together class especially for pre-walkers! Class activities and flow similar to mixed-age classes, but with fewer standing activities and unique methods for parents and babies. Babies should be under 9 months at start of term to register for these classes.

Young Musicians, ages 4-5

This class, taught by teacher Marta Lauria is a "big kids" music and movement class. Kids learn musical concepts through activities which are interactive and social. Class includes singing, instrument play and movement.

Private Piano Instruction, ages 4+

We offer 30 minute private piano lessons for children ages 4 and older (and adults too!)

Musical Theatre, 4-6 years

In 1999, Pocket Full of Tales Theatre Company set out on a mission: to bring art, theatre and adventures of the imagination to every child they meet. For the past 9 years they have been doing just that; through performances and classes with kids and their families from Boston to Los Angeles, in schools, community centers, churches, clubs and arts organizations.

Scripted original musicals are the leaping off point for Pocket Full of Tales' Musical Theatre workshops. Your child will experience adventures in acting, dancing, singing, art and teamwork! Students will work together to create fabulous performances for family, friends and community on the last day of class. An exciting and fun introduction to the world of musical theater and a chance to work with a professional acting teacher on a great show!

Over 40 shows in the repertoire, including Shrek, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Stone Soup, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, King Arthur, How To Eat Fried Worms, and many original productions!

RhythmKids, 4-6 years

RhythmKids classes, taught by teacher Martin Isaac allow children to experience culturally diverse music and drumming, gain self-confidence and self-esteem, increase memory and concentration skills, make new friends, plus a whole lot more. In each class we mix African drumming with healthy habits (mild exercise and yoga) and age-appropriate games that kids LOVE!

Young Pianists, ages 4-5

This "pre-piano" group class for 4 and 5 year-olds is similar to Young Musicians, yet with more focus on introducing young children to the basics of the piano. Each class will include activities and games which teach about the layout and range of the piano keyboard, as well as movement, singing and percussion instrument play to allow children to continue their basic music development. Movement activities based upon philosophy and techniques of Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Children will learn to play a few simple pieces in duet with teacher.

RhythmKids Family Jam

African hand drumming with RhythmKids is FUN! Come for an hour of powerful music-making as we learn rhythms and play together. This session is a great introduction to drumming, and is appropriate for all ages. Along with African djembe drumming, RhythmKids uses singing, rhyme, rhythmic chants, movement, and games to help our students develop a strong internal beat - plus, it's cool! Join us for the love of music, for the chance to experiment, and for the smiles! Each participant will have use of their own djembe for the session, so parents and grandparents finally get their turn to jam!

Monday, July 13th, 5-6pm
